Match report We turned up to West Herts, the venue for our semi-final only to find out that our opponents Radlett had pulled due to not being able to field a team.
So, we were straight through to the final where we would face Harpenden. We were confident that our medals were already secured! We lost the toss and were asked to bowl.
We have beaten them before so we knew we could do it again - however, we started off shakily with 50 coming off the first five overs before some good bowling from Dan Baylis picked up key wickets, which we desperately needed.
This put the pressure back on Harpenden and Tom O'Toole, with good variation and change of pace, slowed the run rate right down. Along with leg spinner Sammy Kumar bowling well this meant the opposition were 90 for seven with 5 overs to go, putting us right back in the game and eventually ending on a below par total 127 which, we were confident, was a catchable total.
Our turn to bat and the innings started with a hiccup with the captain getting out first ball. We needed to find a partnership from somewhere and it was Ben Adshead and Nick Ralfe, a player in good form, who carried us to 110 until Nick reached his fifty and retired.
Joe Button came to the crease and set about the bowling with some good hitting, but it was Harry Kendal and Ben that took us to the victory with 4 overs to spare.
A well-deserved win from a team that have played well all season.
In Jacob Winfield and Alfie Button’s last year of this competition before they become ineligible, a win against Harpenden in the final was oh so sweet!
