Stevenage 1 v St Albans Cricket Club 1XI on Sat 05 Jun 2021 at 12.00
St Albans Cricket Club Lost by 10 runs
Match report
St Albans went to Stevenage looking to build on a strong 8 wicket win the week before. The toss was won and St Albans elected to field first.
As with last week the opening spells were very controlled and economical with White going for 25 off his 10 and May getting an early breakthrough although both spells deserved more.
Further tight bowling and fantastic fielding saw wickets fall regularly and the run rate remain tight and to have restricted Stevenage to under 100 by the half way mark St Albans were in a strong position. Mulveney continued to turn the screw only going for 26 in his 10 overs however from the other Stevenage started to find runs easier to come by.
Some late order hitting and good running between the wickets saw Stevenage get up to 185 at the end of 50 overs which was a couple more than they should have got but a very chase able score.
The St Albans innings didn’t start well as with last week and a wicket fell early bringing Regan to the crease. Regan looked in great touch dismissing any bad ball with ease before getting to 42 and being adjudged lbw. Seagrave continued where he left off against Berko with a Brisk 20 before mistiming one to midwicket.
With 80 needed off the last 20 overs and 7 wickets left it still should have been an easy chase. However, the St Albans batting gremlins still remain and 106-3 became 123-7 as wickets were lost quickly.
Hall and Mulveney set about rebuilding with a well-controlled 40 run partnership getting St Albans to within 20. Then a double wicket maiden. Hall ran out Mulveney who was stuck in a mixture of the bowlers limbs and couldn’t get back and then White picked out mid on.
The following over saw a tight game lost for St Albans as Hall who had been gluing the lower order together mis judged a single and was run out with St Albans 10 runs short.
A game which should have been won with a better performance needed with the bat next week.
