St Albans Cricket Club 1XI v Bushey I on Sat 12 Jun 2021 at 12.00
St Albans Cricket Club Won by 2 wickets

Match report For the second sunny Saturday in a row St Albans won the toss and elected to chase.

The first over had highs and lows with three successive wides to start the game from May followed up with the 9th ball of the over bowling the opener who was trying to hit it over the sightscreen. At the other end the ever-reliant White was bowling a very tight line and multiple close lbws we turned down.

The Bushey second wicket put on 58 runs before Seagrave struck in consecutive overs bowling both of the set batsman. Seagrave 10 overs only went for 23 runs really stifling the Bushey efforts. At the other end Baylis worked up a good head of steam and bowled much better than the figures suggested.

Again in was the introduction of a new bowler, Mulveney which bought wickets in consecutive overs removing both of the set batsman. Mulveney bowled with great flight and control with the batsmen only being able to work singles off him. He was further rewarded with two more wickets towards the end of his spell ending with superb figure of 10 overs 4-29.

Amongst the Mulveney spell Coulman managed to effect a fantastic run out sprinting after the ball to square leg before spinning and throwing in one motion hitting the one stump he had to aim at.

The innings was wrapped up by May who blew the last two batsman away and St Albans were chasing a very gettable 160.

The chase was anything but easy wickets fell very regularly at the top of the order with Seagrave entertaining for a couple of overs but no one sticking with Regan. Hameed for Bushey was finding a great spot in the footmarks and took 4-33 to blow the top order away and at 66-5 160 was a long way off.

However, Regan and new man Coulman started to settle nerves with a 45 run partnership. Both hit the gaps well and made sure that bad balls were put to the boundary. Coulman was growing in confidence using his feet hitting the bowler back over his head with ease. But that was his downfall. Over confidence saw Coulman try one shot too many and opened the door for Bushey.

Howeson and White both went for ducks but crucially another 17 runs were added by Regan who got to a well-crafted 50. 128-8 saw May join Regan at the crease and a chance was never given. 33 runs were picked off with some delightful shot making and well run singles and St Albans got over the line winning by 2 wickets indebted to 63* for Regan.
