St Albans Cricket Club 1XI v Chorleywood 1st XI on Sat 26 Jun 2021 at 12.00
St Albans Cricket Club Won By 2 wickets

Match report A fantastic win from the penultimate ball saw St Albans move to one point behind top of the table Abbots Langley who are the opponents next weekend.

Capaldi lost another toss and St Albans were put into the field. As May does he found an early breakthrough rearranging the openers stumps before Chorleywood rebuilt. A boundary wasn’t hit until the 20th over but the runs were ticking over with a great display of running between the wickets.

Chorleywood were starting to up the runs rate as the off spin of Capaldi and Mulveney was ineffective with boundaries now coming easily. However, ‘Tank’ Baylis took two crucial wickets with his extra pace rushing the Toms who made 22 and also Smithson who crafted a well made 74.

Richardson made 44 towards the end of the innings with some large hitting putting the tennis players at risk as St Albans looked at the prospect of chasing nearer 300. However, wickets tumbled at the end of the innings and St Albans did well to restrict Chorleywood to 248-9.

As with previous weeks the St Albans innings started with an early wicket however, the second wicket saw a 50 run partnership between Regan and Capaldi. Once Capaldi was bowled Seagrave joined Regan and started to take the game away from Chorleywood.

Before Seagrave got going a dolly was dropped at mid off and how Chorleywood were left to rue this. Regan and Seagrave were in complete control until a lack of communication saw Regan run out and a green chair on the boundary hitch kicked towards the pavilion. Seagrave so as not to feel Regans wrath decided the best thing to do was stay out in the middle.

Jerome and Seagrave consolidated the innings punishing the bad balls and hitting the gaps for ones and twos. Jerome found the pace of the pitch and started to find the boundary regularly before being done by a slower ball and when Seagrave was out for 92 suddenly Chorleywood were back in the game.

Three quick wickets were lost which left O’toole and May together with 8 needed off the last over. A wide first up and a drop on the boundary left 1 needed from the last 3 balls and O’toole calmly put bat on ball to the jubilation of Clarence Park.
