Match report An enjoyable start to the St Albans Women's season with a friendly against the Haileybury school Girls 1st Xl. The sun was shining, there was cake provided (yum!) and it was a great game for blowing away the lockdown cobwebs. St Albans won the toss and elected to field. Cerys Jones kicked us off with a wicket first ball but then Haileybury captain Ella Payne-Cook hit beautifully down the ground to bring up 26* retired in just 12 balls. St Albans took wickets at regular intervals and encouraged as many bowlers as possible to turn their arm over, unearthing a few potential secret weapons in the process! Haileybury were restricted to 137 for 5 with Saskia Heard also reaching her retirement score of 27* and Sophie Meredith leading the wickets with 2-31. In reply, St Albans made a steady start with both openers katy Langley (15) and Louise Nichols (21) finding the boundary off the opening bowlers. Jennie Kitzinger reached the retirement score of 26* and a final charge from our middle order took St Albans up to 116 for 3 and just short of the target. The game wasn't about the win though but getting as many players involved as possible and enjoying crossing the boundary rope again - and on that front we'd class it as a big win!
