Berkhamsted v St Albans Cricket Club Girls U15B on Wed 19 May 2021 at 18:00
St Albans Cricket Club Won by 13 runs

Match report What threatened to be a wash-out and a wasted journey to Berkhamsted turned it a beautiful evening of sunshine and excellent cricket. The St Albans girls batted first with the new rules of not being able to be out in your first six balls to get used to Jess and Liv opened the batting and immediately got into their stride rotating the strike and getting the scoreboard ticking over despite some very good opening bowling from Berko, in fact the quality of the opposition bowling was excellent through out and not long after her six balls were up Jess was bowled by a very good ball. Liv continued to bat nicely and increased her scoring rate as Hannah came to the wicket. Liv was eventually bowled for a good 14 and Hannah for 8 as the Berko bowling get pegging us back with some good pace and movement. However this brought Charlotte to the wicket who batted quite wonderfully and most importantly scored a good rate including several well struck boundaries the pick being a perfect straight drive past the bowler. Evie O'G had now joined Charlotte providing good support until eventually Charlotte retired for an brisk 26. If Berko thought Charlotte retiring would bring an end to some powerful hitting they were in for a surprise as Cara coming in at 6 also struck some lusty blows especially down the leg side making good use of the shortest boundary, it should be said that the long boundaries on a damp outfield made scoring difficult. Evie O'G finally departed caught going after quick runs for 8 bringing Evie W to bring some energy especially in her very good running to the closing stages with Cara finishing on 17 and Evie W 3 not out. As mentioned 110 on a damp pitch with all bar one boundary being very long was a good effort by the girls. With this being the case if we could keep our bowling tight and fielding good especially protecting the short boundary we were confident we could defend our total.

Liv and Evie W opened up the bowling and kept things tight which is basically what I can say for everyone else. The Berko innings kept pretty good pace with the required run rate and it was only towards the end they started to fall behind which was due not only to the bowling but some excellent fielding most notably a diving stop by Hannah protecting that short boundary and keeping the pressure on the Berko in the closing stages. So the match finished with a the Girls closing out a good win by 13 runs with Evie W, Hannah and Cara all picking up a wicket each.

Overall a great competitive game between two very good teams with the St Albans girls coming out on top.
