Match report Fine bowling from Simon Fretter, with 5-35, backed up by Charlie Smith (1-22) and Dr JR (3-40) restricted Winchmore Hill to just 152ao from 45 overs.

With short boundaries and fast outfield, the target should have been a reasonable target.

However, with Simon Fretter, falling 3rd ball and followed by Box, with first ball, St Albans were 1-2 at the end of the 1st over.

Solid batting by Gordon Murray (32) and Graham Budd (30) was backed up by Charlie Smith with a fine 33. However, wickets tumbled around them, and St Albans were left with 4 runs required from 6 overs with the last pair of Dr JR and 'Chairman' Maynard at the wicket.

Maynard could not resist the slow, double bouncer and was bowled going for the winning runs. St Albans were still 3 runs short.

It is a pity that some of the Winchmre Hill players had not read the Laws of cricket and, in particular, the paragraph on The Spirit of the Game, as they mocked and argued with many of the umpiring decisions. !!
