The sun was out and the temperature already high at 9.30am as both teams arrived. Luckily the Gazebo fairy had been there early and set up some lovely shade for the players and parents. Thank you Gazebo Fairy!
St Albans fielded first and kept it tight in the field against some quality batters intent on taking quick singles. Rose had a particularly active day in the field getting the only St Albans wicket (bowled) and having the ball follow her regardless of where she was fielding on the pitch. Bishop Stortford closing their innings on a strong 303-1.

Shloka and Gabby were the first pair out and, after taking guard, wondered where the opening Bishop Stortford bowler was. Then, coming over the horizon, was the county opening bowler, off a very long run up, trailed by a cloud of dust. Credit to Shloka and Gabby for keeping their wickets intact and scoring 19 against not one, but two, county bowlers. Paloma and Annabel were next to the crease and pushed the scoring rate up with strong hitting and stealing quick singles. One close run out, and one bowled, checked their progress to 16 runs. Eadie and Rose combined well for 19 runs, both keeping their wickets intact, with Rose hitting the only 4 of the innings. Requiring 50 runs our U11 pair Leila and Elaina strode confidently to the crease, to then realise they were facing the county opening bowling pair. Both girls batting admirably against some very quick bowling and after a couple of high balls to Leila, and three wickets, the bowlers adjusted to spin. The St Albans final total was 248.

A resilient performance against the league leaders played in a positive spirit by both teams.
