St Albans Cricket Club Won by 15 runs

Match report Rain clouds could be seen gathering with intent on the horizon as the girls arrived for the St Albans derby game at Sandpit Lane looking to balance the books after losing to OAs earlier in the season.
St Albans fielded first and, under the astute leadership of Captain Gauri, who skilfully juggled the bowling attack, limited the OAs total to 242.

Key highlights to mention:
4 maidens from Paloma, Aarna, Freya and Rose and a wicket maiden for Gauri.
A wicket each for Rose and Gauri, both bowled.
A debut bowling performance for Genevieve that showed great promise.
Following the shenanigans in the Ashes with Johnny Bairstow’s run out, and the Aussies not withdrawing their appeal, the Spirit of Cricket was seen alive and well at Sandpit Lane in the 17th over. Sharp fielding between Rose and Elaina took advantage of miscommunication between the OAs batters for a run out. Realising that something was amiss the umpires conferred and, understanding that the OAs batter wasn’t sure which of the batting lines was the actual crease (blue or white line), gave the opportunity to St Albans to withdraw their appeal: which they graciously did (unlike the Aussies).

After much chopping and changing of the batter order, based on who had to leave early, Freya and Aarna walked out to bat. Clear calling and good running between the wickets moved the score to 211 for the loss of one wicket. A nice straight drive from Freya not getting the value it deserved in the slow outfield. Paloma and Gauri were next to the crease and supercharged the score to 251 with a strongly hit 4 for Paloma. Rose and Elaina were next to the crease and moved the score along with well taken quick singles. One close run out, and one bowled, checked their progress to 8 runs. Knowing the total had already been reached Constance and Genevieve saw out the gun OAs bowlers, for the loss of two wickets, to ensure victory. One crisp hit from Constance, normally a 4, again slowing up in the outfield.

Summary: a win born from a performance in the field drying up the opposition runs marked by 5 maidens and 2 wickets.
Special mention to Genevieve on debut and the 4 U11 girls for stepping up (Aarna, Elaina, Constance & Elaina)
