St Albans Cricket Club 6XI v Holtwhites Trinibus 4XI on Sat 24 Jun 2023 at 13:00
St Albans Cricket Club Won By 7 Wickets

Match report A strong 6XI welcomed the visit of Holtwhites Trinibus 4XI to a Sandpit Lane Astro. Skipper John Webber lost the toss and St Albans were asked to field. With Holtwhites being a league side, a good game was in store. Big thanks to James Witty for stepping in as a last-minute replacement after a late no-show/drop out.

PD and Jonathan Harris opened up accompanied by some off-key singing from a nearby concert which was actually more bearable than anything that was coming out of Ciaran Walsh’s mouth. With the thought of wanting to do Pies proud in both their ears, Harris came steaming in from the top end and PD from the bottom end. PD set about making inroads to the Holtwhites top order, taking the top 3 batsman, backed up by an uncharacteristic perfect fielding display that left Holtwhites 40-3. With Harris’ opening spell finished he had to run off briefly to tell his legions of adoring fans to not arrive for a bit.

Ciaran Walsh fueled by his usual morning bowl of Special K then kindly took a break from vaping in the field to come onto bowl. Walsh came stampeding in from the bottom with his usual style and grace. Walsh bowled well and picked up the key 4th wicket ironically the worst ball he bowled to dismiss the well-set number 5 bat. Andy Melling came on at the other end and was able to beat the bat on a number of occasions with no reward. Good bowling display from St Albans saw wickets falling at regular intervals with Fin McNab picking up two well deserved wickets again backed up from catches from PD and Vikas. Maroof replaced Fin and picked up a further wicket with a seed that clipped the top of off. Ieuan Chakma-Smith and Ethan Witty were both playing their first adult games and bowled well causing the Holtwhites batsman a few problems. Ieuan and Ethan both picked up their first wickets thanks to good catches from Webber behind the stumps and and Ciaran at mid-off. A brilliant running catch from PD and Mid-on off Ethan saw Holtwhites finished on a respectable 125.

John Webber and Vikas Narula opened up for St Albans and got the chase off to a good start with Webber finding the boundary and Vikas picking off the singles. Webber eventually departed for 15 bringing PD to the crease. PD picked up where Webber left off and settled in for a big innings, seeing off the good balls and coming down the track to anything off length or in the slot. Vikas soon after began to find the boundary before being given out LBW for a well made 22. Ethan Witty came to the crease and found the gaps before gloving a reverse sweep to slip. Ieuan came to the crease and hit two assertive early boundaries. At the other end PD was well into his grove and took St Albans past 100, before bringing up his 50 white a dismissive charge down the pitch to see St Albans, dedicating his innings to the hours of coaching from Pies. A 7 wicket win with good performances all round
