Match report With Ampthill players delayed on their trip down the M1 it was agreed that they would bat first on the astro at a blustery Sandpit Lane.
Archie 6-26-0 and Jon 4-23-0 opened the attack, both using the wind to their advantage and kept Ampthill tied down. Their skipper worked the strike well and picked off anything loose retiring on 53* in the 14th over. Niraj 6-25-2 bowled tight lines and removed the other opener. Joe 4-14-0 bowled with great variation and was unlucky not to pick up a wicket or two. James 6-25-2 and Praveen 5-12-2 got into their rhythms quickly and ripped through the middle order. Ampthill’s run rate after 30 overs was struggling around 3s until their #8 hit a quick fire 45. Shadders 4-9-0, and Fin 4-17-1 wrapped up the innings. The 6s kept things tight in the field, including some great stops by Ashaz on debut, and Dexter taking the gloves for the first time kept things tidy including a sharp catch and a stumping.

Fin and Shadders opened the innings for the 6s and both started quickly reaching 88-0 after 11 - St Albans well ahead of the required rate. Shadders looking to reach 50 with a 6 was promptly caught behind on 44. Fin continued to score freely, retiring on 51*. With no real scoreboard pressure Praveen (11) and Ashaz (0) were more cautious, but both falling within a few balls of each other to some very good spin bowling. Jon (26) and James (26) rebuilt a partnership and scored the remaining runs to bring home a well deserved victory in the 30th over.
A game played in a great 6s spirit by both teams. Many thanks to Niraj for stepping into the team at the very last minute.
