Harpenden 214 for 5 (53 overs) St Albans 218 for 3 (42.4 overs)

For the second week in succession Harpenden suffered a 7 wicket defeat, this time at the hands of local rivals St Albans at Clarence Park. Having won the toss, Harps skipper Mike Howard elected to bat. St Albans were celebrating an early breakthrough having caught de Silva when he had made just 9 but then they noticed the umpire's outstretched arm signifying that Richard O'Toole had overstepped on delivery. After this reprieve de Silva and van der Westhuyzen began to up the run rate which had been under 2 an over and had accumulated 61 off 23 overs before van der Westhuyzen was caught by Caley off O'Toole for 23. Howard and de Silva added another 66 for the second wicket to leave Harps in a comfortable position of 128 for 2 off 40 overs with de Silva on 61 and showing the mastery with the bat that had been missing from his last few innings. The loss of two quick wickets knocked the visitors back slightly but de Silva and Mark Fettes repaired the damage with de Silva going on to score 102 before being caught legitimately off O'Toole's bowling with just two overs to go. Fettes made a dashing 34 not out at a run a ball and ensured that Harps were certain of maximum batting points if victory was denied them.

Saints captain Ian McKinley opened the home team's innings together with ex-Herts captain Nick Gilbert. The spin pairing of de Silva and Matt Mardle, bowling with the old ball, managed to peg the Saints back for the first few overs but didn't manage to take a wicket although Gilbert was dropped in successive overs before he had reached double figures. Mike Howard decided to take the new ball after 10 overs and turned to his pace bowlers. John Kerley eventually had Gilbert caught behind for 20 with the score on 51 after 16 overs. This left the home team needing to score at just over 4 an over to win. St Albans' overseas player Zeshan Butt took up the challenge scoring 4 off the first ball he faced. He was matched in his attack by his captain who was eventually bowled by de Silva for 81, having added 104 for the second wicket. The reintroduction of de Silva and Mardle did little to stem Butt's onslaught. He reached his 50 off 64 balls and then took just 25 more to notch up his century and two deliveries later he hit his 12th four of the afternoon to seal victory for his team.
