Match report A disastrous start for the IIIs was turned around with a stunning fightback led by Fleming's century, to give the team a resounding victory at Ickleford.

Electing to bat first, the skipper's decision was soon undermined with some poor shots, and a scoreline of 2-3 suggested a quick return to St.Albans was likely. 18-4 and then 56-6 (plus a few dropped catches to boot) did not suggest much better, and with reports coming in of rain offs at matches further west, knowledge of rain dances was sought.

However, Fleming and Garg combined to frustrate and then flatten Ickleford. Their partnership of 120 had both careful placement and powerful hitting as the opposition wilted in the face of rain. As the last over of the innings started, the IIIs were eight runs short of the final batting points, and Fleming need four more for a ton. Both targets were duly reached, Fleming celebrating a magnificent century with a follow up six.

Set 207 to win in 45 overs, Ickleford were set up for a chase to keep their promotion prospects in order. Skipper Eames chose to open the bowling with two slow medium options in Walker and Christie. Taking the pace off the ball successfully kept the run rate in check, and wickets fell regularly, with the fielding - as typified by Watkins' fine catch - keeping the pressure on. Bowling 16 overs straight, Walker finished with three wickets, and Garg continued his excellent day out with four wickets.

This 105 run victory was a fine tonic for the IIIs, in need of 30 points, and testament to a disciplined performance.
