Match report With the sun shining under a clear blue sky, St. Albans B met Harpenden B for what turned out to be a cracking match. St. Albans elected to field first with Harpenden opening the batting with Kneale and Bailey. However, wickets came quickly for St. Albans with all 3 opening bowlers striking early, taking a wicket each in their first overs.

Alex Card set off patiently and ended up being Harpenden’s joint top sorcerer with 18, before being caught out by Joel McKinnon. James Harvey (N/O) also made 18 and with the help of Kearen PcPhillips (3) and Max Swanne (9) Harpenden moved along swiftly.

The St. Albans boys showed a significant improvement since their last game and with some great fielding from all the team including Louise Walter, Jacob West, and new comer Josh Purewal, they kept Harpenden pinned down - at some points with their bodies to stop the ball crossing the boundary.

Bowling figures were also good - Awan (3 overs 3 for 5), Turk (2 overs 2 for 2), Solomons (3 overs 1 for 5). Finally, with McKinnon and Walter taking one wicket each, Harpenden ended their innings on 65 for 8.

As Cook and West opened the batting for St. Albans, the team’s high hopes came crashing down very quickly. Cook was bowled for 1, and for anyone who thought it couldn’t get any worse, three further wickets namely; West, Awan and Andrew Bailey fell without a run. Turk and Solomon’s tried to hang in there and managed a partnership of 10, but as further wickets fell in great domino style, Walter (1), McKinnon (2) and Barnett (0) it was James Colebourn who stood his ground and hit two beautiful boundaries before finishing on 13 (N/O). Purewal also managed 3 (N/O) before the 20 overs were called and St. Albans finished their innings on 50 for 9.

Even conceding 10 wide’s and 8 no balls, St Albans folded feebly and only had their poor batting to blame for what could have been a good win against a formidable side.
