Lilley v St Albans Cricket Club Men's Indoor on Wed 11 Oct 2006 at 20:00
St Albans Cricket Club Won 4 wickets
Match report
Picture the scene, St Albans leading giants inserting the fresh faced Lilley side, music blaring, crowd settled but drooling with anticipation! The mood tense among the St Albans side, eager for their first league victory, captain Simon Galloway hands the ball to the drug dealing Richard "Toolbag" O'Toole, who trots in like a prancing pony and first up produces a spitting late swinging delivery, beating the edge and being snaffled by Jones the makeshift keeper like plucking a dandelion seed out of the air. This was the tone of the day from St Albans, excellent cricket all round, superb full swinging deliveries from O'Toole and Longhurst sending stumps flying, Rhodes like swooping from the nimble Galloway and eager encouragement from the untested Howeson and Aussie. Carnage was the result with Lilley being removed for just 26 runs, surely a record for St Albans cricket. In response the batting order was tinkered with, it was deemed unfair to release the indoor lion Jones with his indoor average of 83 and Toolbag the game killer! Galloway sent out Howeson and himself to kill off the game quickly however with Howesen rather embarrassingly being cleaned up by a 40mph ball delivered from extra cover the crowed became restless, but the middle order saw St Albans home. The early finish enabled St Albans to take full advantage of the bar (many thanks to our Civil Servant Daniel Longhurst for being the wench!) and watch a St Albans player Andrew Cole masquerade as a ringer for London Colney only to get stuffed!
