St Albans Cricket Club Won by 141 runs

Match report Another lovely summer’s evening, brought the spectators out and saw the St Albans U13s bat first and build what was a mammoth total. After a shaky start, Edward Cook (24) got off to a steady run rate before being caught out by Flamsteads Sam Mortimer. The rest of the team then followed suite and did what a batting side should do. Andrew Baily (10) was lbw’d, but it was the next three batsmen who all retired (not out) that really notched up the runs. Oscar James (27), Hashim Awan (26) and Sean Muktar (25) - This great batting spell was then followed by Magnus Morgan (16) who was bowled by Joe Waugh, Talha Turk (19), Jaden Solomon’s (8) and Harry Brown (6). Even the reintroduction of additional bowlers didn’t disturb the team’s equilibrium as St Albans hit a massive 183 runs in their 20 overs.

Awan and Turk opened the bowling for St Albans and were met by some inexperienced openers who immediately seemed to be a little out of their depth. Turk however picked up a wicket and Awan bowled a tight line. One of the batsmen in particular was going for a cover drive, which proved his undoing when Jaden Solomans took a superb catch to a high ball from Harry Brown’s bowling. However this wasn’t before an equally good slip catch from Awan from Magnus’s bowling. With strength in the bowling department there was no let up for the Flamstead batsmen as Solomans and Muktar chipped in with a wicket a piece. McKinnon also added fuel to the fire by bowling a couple of superb overs.

Overall the bowling was tight and controlled and once again some great fielding kept the visitors to just under 42 runs.

A great score, a great match and a great win.
