Match report A game with more twists and turns than an Ashes test.
St Albans started poorly and found themselves reeling at 2 for 3, and then 11 for 4 after 9 overs! Clive steadied the ship but at 45-7 in the 21st over the game could have been over very quickly. However the youngsters had other ideas. Michael Roche (26), George Calverley (25), and Paul Pizzey (15) showed the top order how to play and recovered the position to a defendable target (almost).
With no runs to play with the bowlers kept a tight line and length, and were well supported by the rest of the team in the field. However the excellent bowling went unrewarded - with the opposition steady at 51 without loss, the game was rapidly slipping away.
Tom Townend's persistence eventually paid off - a vital break through. Andy Saunders exceptional spell(8-11-2) then prompted a steady collapse. Tom Szczech and Michael Roche were both rewarded with 2 wickets a piece for their excellent spells. The opposition now started to show their nerves, and the St Albans belief and intensity increased in equal measure. Unfortunately with the scores tied St Albans couldn't quite claim the last wicket needed.
An exciting game for both teams, and plenty of positives for all the youngsters playing. Excellent work behind the stumps from Harry KJ, including 3 catches.

A real pleasure to see the younger players taking on the challenge with the bat and ball, and showing some real responsibility and maturity.(If just one of the 4 more experienced players, batting 2 to 5, had found some runs the result could have been very different!)
