Match report In an enthralling match at Verulam School, Saints IIIs were able to reverse the result of the early season encounter against Langlebury IIIs.

Batting first at the request of the visitors, St Albans wickets fell regularly in the face of some good bowling from the Langleybury outfit. After three wickets fell in the first seven overs, Ferguson contributed a valuable but turgid 18, but momentum stayed with the bowling side. Batting at 8, it was Afroz Khan who contributed top score of 30, with the last wicket adding 25 runs to yield a total of 138, Stafford nabbing 5 wickets for the visitors. Meanwhile Langleybury had lost batsman Fry to a hamstring injury suffered when taking a catch at slip. Could this final wicket stand and injury have turned the momentum towards Saints?

Skipper O'Toole was rightfully grumpy as he lead his side out to field, unhappy with such a disappointing total. But the Langlebury innings started to follow the same pattern as that of Saints, with wickets breaking partnership before they could become significant. With a collection of spectators from the first XI - defeated before tea down the road at Clarence Park - looking on, O'Neill and Fleming (13 overs, 4/27) continued taking wickets, and Watkins chimed in as well, with all urged on by the grumpy skipper's angry rants at any errors. Whether inspired by these admonishments or not, O'Neill (4-30) took the final wicket to complete a thoroughly pleasing 48 run win.
