St Albans Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets

Match report After a tense wait for the opposition to show up they eventually arrived an hour late for a game in which just 11 points were needed for promotion. A no show would have meant only 10 points....

St Albans won the toss and opted to bowl on a drying pitch and in the end it was a formality as a strong St Albans team set about dismantling the opposition with excellent bowling ,some top catches and a generally dominant performance in the field.

Wickets were spread among the bowlers but special credit should go to the opening pair of Harry Saunders and Christian Hay who both bowled tight spells , Saunders picking up 3 scalps and Hay 1. A notable performance too from Naveed Ahmed with the ball, recording exceptional figures of 6 overs 5 maidens 2 wickets for 3 runs.

Eventually skittled for just 38 runs the opposition had little to defend and when Manny and Nick James strode to the middle it was only a matter of time. James rather comically stood on his wicket after scoring a brisk 14 and it was left to Ahmed and Manny to see the team home with just 7 overs bowled.

Not much of a game then but frankly this was all about winning today with promotion the reward for an undefeated season.
