Aldenham CC v St Albans Cricket Club Sunday 2nd XI on Sun 05 Jul 2015 at 14:00
St Albans Cricket Club Won by 97 runs

Match report The day before this Aldenham had inflicted a heavy defeat on the St Albans 5XI so we didn't go into this friendly fixture lightly .

Winning the toss (Skipper Saunders has a 100% record this season!) we elected to bat at this pretty ground with short boundaries. The wicket looked like it had a bit in it though and so it proved as openers Henry Tyler and Marcus Townend struggled to contain a spitting ball and several edges went down . Townend departed caught behind on 10 with Henry eventually succumbing after a useful 40. Naveed Ahmed came in at 3 and was unlucky to miss out on a half century again as he was well caught on the boundary for a stylish 46. Other notable contributions with the bat included Harvey Scott (23) , Ben Hicks (22) and perhaps most impressively Joe Clouting , an excellent 23 justifying his move up the order today.

191all out then the total posted in this timed game .

Ashish Dean and Joe Clouting opened the St Albans bowling and their hostile approach paid immediate dividends as the opposition's opening pair found runs hard to come by. Ashish eventually ripped through the top order with figures of 8-1-41-4 and Joe bowled his usual tight spell and was very unlucky not to get wickets as his finished on a miserly 6-2-15-0.

Enter Henry Tyler and Amit Rajani into the bowling attack who continued the good work. Henry's pace was too hot to handle and Amit's guile and looping , left arm deliveries bewildered the batsman... as usual.

Henry finished with 4 wickets and excellent figures of 5.2-1-13-4 , while Amit picked up a pair of wickets and recorded equally an impressive 4-2-7-2.

Andy Saunders and Ciaran Walsh came into the attack and conceded just 3 runs in a 10 over spell between them but couldn't dislodge the last pair and as the overs ticked away skipper Saunders took the decision to put Harvey Scott in a helmet at short leg and bring the paceman Henry Tyler back into play. 3 balls later a vicious short delivery was fended off straight to Harvey who dived full length to take a spectacular game winning catch as the opposition were bowled out for 94. You have to love it when a plan works !

A great effort against a decent team with everyone playing a part in the victory .
