Match report The final friendly match of the season for the Sunday 2's involved a lengthy trek round the M25 to Essex and the hinterland of the Dartford tunnel to play Belhus CC.

A decent St Albans team skippered by Amit Rajani won the toss and opted to bat first at a lovely ground in the pretty village of North Stifford.

Early runs were hard to come by but openers Tim Winfield and Michael Jones kept the scoreboard ticking over until Jones retired hurt after turning his ankle . The ever reliable Naveed Ahmed came to the wicket and set about accelerating the run rate in his usual belligerent style . The highlight of his 32 runs came when a towering six managed to smash the clubhouse window.

Following Winfield's departure Amit Rajani came into bat and it was his busy, intelligent 64 runs that set the foundation for a decent first innings total of 178 . A mention too for Harry Saunders quickfire 20 , a useful cameo.

After an excellent tea the opposition set about the St Albans bowling with gusto , quickly accumulating 50 runs for the loss of no wicket . A bowling change saw Rajani and Ahmed come into the attack and their double combination of pace off the ball stemmed the run rate considerably. Rajani made the key breakthrough , taking the wicket of a dangerous looking opener and the game settled into a good contest.

All the bowlers played their part, with the interesting statistic of only one extra, a leg bye, being conceded during the entire innings. Ashirwad Merve behind the stumps was excellent.

in the end the Belhus batsmen couldn't match the run rate and after the 40 overs had been bowled St Albans emerged winners by 16 runs.
