Match report The IIs failed were soundly beaten by Langleybury in this fixture at the picturesque Hunton Bridge ground.

With overcast skies and a threatening forecast, Saints were asked to bat first. Although most of the top order looked in good touch, wickets fell regularly; skipper Telkman bemused by the umpire's decision against him to curtail his knock. At this point, the hosts were well on top with the score at 5/46, with a cluster of slow left armers on show. Fortunately this played into Ahmed's game, and he took a liking to the short boundaries with some sweet, if somewhat airy, strokes. The partnership with Rajani yielded 70, Nav managing 52. From 8/122, the tail wagged a little to take the total to 160, and a little more respectability.

Despite a week full of rain, the wicket was playing much better than expected. 160 was well short of par, and both sides knew it.

Although the bowling was respectable, Akram was able to get things moving swiftly for Langleybury, and Hopping and Walker continued apace. Wickets proved hard to come by, with a few half-chances not sticking, though Hay found his groove and managed a couple of wickets. With dark clouds approaching, Langleybury were playing aggressively to stay ahead of the game, Walker hoisting one delivery over the pavilion. After a twenty minute break for rain, the hosts were able to be a little more circumspect in their approach, and cruised to victory.

Lack of runs first up - that was the problem here, as acknowledged by the skipper in his post-match wrap up. More runs next match, please.
