Match report Saints hosted Northwood Town determined to pull off a victory that would keep them in the hunt for promotion, but finished second best on the day.

Telkman was able to choose to bat first under blue skies. Crisp was out early to a beauty from left armer Malik, and despite a sequence of starts from the batsmen, Saints wickets kept falling to leave the score at 5/67 after 21 overs - there were no doubt guilty feelings amongst the top order. But Richard Baylis joined forces with Hicks (19) and the two tallied 58 runs. Baylis was patient on the slow wicket, but pounced on anything off line to hit 48 valuable runs. A final over flurry from Maynard lifted the score to 161, below par from a makeshift line-up but something to work with.

For once Saints' opening bowlers weren't able to breakthrough, and runs flowed freely. Taking pace off the ball proved the answer, with Hicks and Walker slowing the rate considerably - 21 runs were taken off the following 15 overs. At drinks, Northwood Town were on 61/1 after 24 overs; with only one wicket lost they were well in the hunt but nor did Saints feel out of the game. Dan Baylis then announced himself by snatching a vital wicket with his first delivery, and went on to add another, finishing with 2/12. Hicks (2/49) bowled a fine 15 over spell, but with wickets in hand the visitors were able to take risks to lift the run rate. Half chances and mishits eluding fielders gave a feeling that this wasn't to be Saints' day, and though wickets did fall in the chase, Northwood Town were able to reach the target with a few overs to spare. Credit again to Haji who showed patience in compiling 48, an innings around which his teammates could work - a lesson perhaps to Saints' batsmen.

A little undermanned on the day, this was never the less a disappointing result - but Saints battled hard in the field and should take credit for their effort.
