Match report High flying Berkhamsted III's visited Sandpit Lane aiming to keep the pressure on the league leaders Harpenden, while Saints were hoping to ease further away from the relegation zone.

Berko won the toss and elected to bat on a good looking deck, but Saints opening bowlers, Alfie Tinkler (0-24) and Rehan Ul Haq (1-22), kept their openers relatively quiet with challenging opening spells that deserved more than the single wicket they yielded. The pressure began to tell on the batsman, however, and a run out soon followed, with further wickets falling to Adam Murphy (1-26), Nadeem Arif (1-28) and Faz Nisar (1-42), who continued to probe. Berko rallied towards the end, with Brierley compiling a determined half century, supported by Parnell (37), and leading Berko to a competitive but by no means unassailable score of 179-5 from their 40 overs.

Manny Nisar (16) and Nick James (12), leading Saints reply as usual, made an steady start against Berko's pacey openers but both perished in quick succession before 40 runs were on the board following early changes to the bowling attack. A flurry of wickets followed as Saints slipped to 60-5 and it was left to Najib Khan (48) and Mick Eames (30) to rebuild the innings and get the run chase back on track. The latter guided Saints past 140, but perished in the 34th over as he sought to accelerate the score. Some big hitting from Ul Haq (13) and smart batting from Murphy (2) and Arif (7) kept Saints in the hunt, but Berko kept chipping away with regular wickets. Arif was last man out in the 39th over leaving Saints just 16 runs short of their target.

Overall, a close game that was played in great spirit and with other results going Saints way, both teams can claim to have accomplished their objective for the day.
