St Albans Cricket Club Lost by 81 runs

Match report The 4s played Harpenden 5s, the run away league leaders, at Sandpit Lane. St Albans focus however was at the other end of the table, and were looking to maximise bonus points in the relegation battle.
Toss duly won, St Albans took to the field looking to take as many wickets as possible in the 40 overs. Openers Ul Haq and Winfield bowled well but could not break the strong opening partnership (80 from the first 16 overs). The first bowling change brought immediate results. Lorna Harper picking up the big hitting opener - a superb catch by Walsh on the boundary. However at 140-1 in the 24th over Harpenden were still dominating and looking for a big total.
However Lorna (6-40-4) picked up wickets in each of her last 3 overs, and Harpenden stalled. As Harpenden tried to accelerate again Sam Baksa (6-39-4) cleverly out thought the batsmen, eventually collecting the last Harpenden wicket with the final ball of the innings.
A tough target of 264 was set.
The plan was to ignore the target and just bat the 40 overs for as many points as possible.
However James and Longbottom started quickly and with 34 runs after the first 5 overs, Harpenden were noticeably rattled. A couple of quick wickets however and all thoughts of an improbable victory were quashed. James (76) was the backbone of the innings and partnerships with Winfield (18), and Ul Haq (10) ensured that St Albans were able to use all their allotted overs.

An excellent team performance with everyone contributing.
Job done - 17 bonus points gained. So only 1 point needed next week in the final match of the season to escape relegation.
