St Albans Cricket Club Lost by 4 wickets

Match report An impressive 5 wicket haul from young leg spinner Sammy Kumar was not enough to prevent St Albans succumbing to a 4 wicket league defeat at SLCG this afternoon .

Losing the toss and being asked to bat Saints openers Manny Nisar and his brother Faz started well enough although Faz pulled a quad muscle during his first run and was forced to bat virtually on one leg for his 14 runs before losing his wicket. in came last weeks half-centurian Andy Loe to develop a good looking partnership with Manny. Passing 50 for the loss of only one wicket in the 15th over things were progressing steadily before the loss of 4 wickets in the next 10 overs put St Albans on the back foot. Dave Ashton (18) and Jon Little (22) steadied the ship and a neat double figure cameo from Nick Ralfe saw Saints reach a respectable total of 143 from their 40 overs at tea.

Moksudul Islam and Jim Everdell opening the bowling for St Albans and Everdell particularly was let down by some poor fielding , his figures not accurately reflecting his performance. Jon Little came on as first change and bowled his usual tight lines but it was the introduction of leg spinner Sammy Kumar that saw opposition wickets start to tumble . His spell of 5 wickets for 37 runs gave Saints some hope but ultimately there were too few runs on the board and the total was chased down with over 8 overs to spare.

Some positives to take from this game then but ultimately a lack of runs from the top order and sone seriously sloppy fielding meant Saints couldn't really complain about this loss.
