St Albans Cricket Club 4XI v Watford Town IV on Sat 26 Aug 2017 at 13:00
St Albans Cricket Club Won by 15 runs

Match report The 4s defended a low total of 130 against Watford Town at SLCG to record three wins in a row for the first time this season.

Batting first after winning the toss on a tricky pitch the Saints opening pair of Andy Knill-Jones and Steve Ferguson found the early stages hard going as the ball alternately spat and kept low and throughout the opening salvos dot balls were the order of the day.

AKJ eventually departed after an obdurate but low scoring stand leaving Fergie to hold the fort as first Nick Ralfe and then Najib Khan came and went without adding significant runs.

Michael ‘Eammo’ Eames then came to the crease and set about building a decent partnership with Fergie as the two veterans kept the scoreboard moving, Fergie eventually departing for a hard fought 37.

Only 19 more runs were added for the next 4 wickets before the 40 overs ran out and although 130 looked 20 or so below par the pitch was always going to be a factor in deciding this result.

Glenn O’ Grady and Rob Still opened the bowling for Saints and while Glenn bowled with frugal hostility one of the opening batsmen look a shine to Rob’s medium pace wobblers and accrued a concerning amount of runs in the opening overs.

Rob stepped aside for Andy Saunders who slowed the run rate picking up two wickets in his 8 over spell and at the end of his 8 excellent overs which saw him post figures of 1-11 Glenn was replaced by Nadeem Arif whose 3-14 reflected a controlled spell of clever bowling.

Nick Ralfe then came into the attack picked up the scalp of the opening batsman with his first ball, one of 3 wickets he snaffled with his ever improving off spin.

Excellent catches from Nadeen and AKJ are worth a mention in dispatches too.

Rob Still then came on for a second spell at the end and showed his class as he saw out the innings, taking the winning wicket and conceding just 8 runs from his second set of 4.1 overs.

Another great win and the 4s go into into their last league game full of confidence.
