Berkhamsted girls v St Albans Cricket Club Girls U15B on Sun 23 Jun 2019 at 13:00
St Albans Cricket Club Lost by 10 runs

Match report St Albans were always up against it in this match already being one player short before game day. Due to a clash with county commitments, we also lost a player a couple of hours before the match. So with two short, St Albans took on a motivated opposition.

Losing the toss we were sent in to bat. Evie O'Grady and Grace Bond facing the new ball on a noticeable downhill slanting pitch. The openers fared well with Evie hitting her first ever boundary with a lovely straight drive under the legs of a leaping Grace Bond and the girls held their wickets. In came Cora Bayliss and Christine Bond to face tight bowling with some good fielding catching them out a couple of times. In next were Jessie Nelson and Imogen Warwick and the girls pushed us in the right direction with positive running and a number of wides.
It was time for the two Sophies. Sophie Treloar stood up well despite having equipment a few sizes too large! She didn't see much of the ball due to a number of wides. Sophie B smacked one four so far down the hill it took at least a minute for the ball to retrieved!
Grace and Evie closed the innings pushing the total up to 255, a number we've successfully defended a number of times this season.

The girls were two short in the field so it was always going to be a struggle but we fielded brilliantly as a unit with Evie O'Grady and Imogen Warwick both taking incredible catches. Imogen in particular running backwards to take the catch over her shoulder.

The Bond sisters both kept wicket with great composure and all the girls bowled well with Imogen, Jessie, Evie and Cora all taking wickets.

It came down to the last over and their county player smacked a number of boundaries to take them to victory. The girls were disappointed but it was a valiant effort and one they should be proud of. The opposition were very forgiving of our two short players therefore this was a lesson in sporting fairness over victory and the fact we took it to the wire was a credit to the St Albans girls once again.

Player of the match was Sophie Treloar who stepped up into this age group and bowled, batted and fielded fearlessly.
