Potten End 2XI v St Albans Cricket Club 4XI on Sat 20 Jul 2019 at 13.00
St Albans Cricket Club Won by 10 wickets

Match report An emphatic 10 wicket win over Hemel Hempstead based side Potten End made it 3 victories in a row and 4 wins out of the last 5 for the fast improving 4XI .

Heavy overnight and morning rain made getting a game on at all touch and go but good drying conditions from noon onwards led to an agreed 2pm start time and a game reduced to 35 overs per side.

Skipper Andy Saunders won his first toss of the season and chose to bowl , the obvious choice in the conditions .

Electing to open with the left arm/right arm medium pace combination of Josh Moore (1-14) and Nadeem Arif (3-13) Saints were soon on top , piling on the pressure and restricting the run rate to a trickle as the Potten End batsman struggled to cope with the good line and length and variable bounce.

A target of letting the batsmen score no more than 40 runs in the first 20 overs was set and as wickets started to fall this was achieved with first Amy Price (2-18) and Syed Navqi (0-20) keeping it tight and creating chances.

As the frustration built Saints kept an attacking field and brought the slow bowling pairing of Saunders and Josh Mulvaney on for the last 8 over spell , which yielded a miserly 18 runs ,and saw Josh picking up 2 wickets in 2 balls while very nearly grabbing a hattrick.

A total of 103 was set and even with the reduced overs Saints were confident, sending out the veteran pair of Manny Nisar and Nadeem Arif - enjoying a new lease of life as a opening batsman- to chase it down.

This they duly did with aggressive intent from the start. Bad balls were dispatched with both batsmen playing a range of shots and running impressively between the wickets.

In just 13 overs the job was done, Nadeem registering an impressive half century and Manny falling just short on 49* despite a final boundary that fell agonizingly short of being the 6 required to take him to his 50.

With 30 points secured the 4XI move up to third in the league table, still very much in contention for promotion.
