Match report After a week of rain, the threes were back at Sandpit Lane, facing up to Wheathampstead on an afternoon which threatened to see the heavens open again.

The skipper won his sixth toss in row and put faith in his batsman's ability to chase down whatever score might be set.

What followed was a fine all round performance from the bowlers, who this week were given good support in the field - a little catching practice never hurts.

From the top end, West and Islam bowled with good life, consistently challenging the batsmen. Winfield, into the wind, again contained the nervous batsmen, while Saunders found good shape and Murphy dropped quickly into the right areas. Despite Porter’s diligent efforts, Wheathampstead never really got going, the first boundary not arriving until the 26th over.

Six bowlers were used, all taking wickets, rewarded for bowling good lines that contained the batsmen. With nary an error in the field, Saints performance in knocking over the opposition for 59 was confident and professional.

With the innings finishing early, tea was put on hold for a while as Saints looked to beat the demons in the wicket and reach their target of 60. Inevitably a few wickets fall prior to the arrival of rain, which neatly created the opportunity for a tea break.

At 3/15, there were a few nerves in the Saints lineup, with the newly damp wicket difficult to negotiate. However, Wyldes and Islam put together a partnership that settled those anxieties - well at least when Moksy wasn’t doing the calling, for the judgement of runs left a little bit to be desired. Ultimately, Wyldes controlled the match’s destiny, steering Saints how to a comfortable six wicket victory.

There was plenty for the skipper to be pleased about, with 30 points helping the IIIs keep pace in their division.
