St Albans Cricket Club Won by 40 runs

Match report A mixed day for St albans which finished with a fine performance after the tea interval.

St Albans were asked to bat first by a Langlebury side desperate for 25 points. Josh Holt agian made a good start before being dismissed for 21. Roger Edbrooke continued to add to the total well before Matt was given out LBW to a ball which looked to be drifting down the legside. Shortly after this Roger Edbrooke fell victim to a what is probably best described as an umpiring error, despite clearer getting a thick edge on to his pad, Roger was found himself walking back to the pavillion having been given out LBW. Nick Gilbert batted well until he was caught out for 28 at mid off, having sent the ball into the clouds. The other runs were shared between the rest of the batsemn to leave St Albans with a dissapointing 162, which could have been much worse had Langlebury held any of the 8 catches that were dropped. Nigel Ilott bowled very well for the vistors and finished with the impressive figures of 20.5-4-63-8.

St Albans knew langlebury would go all out for the 25 points, and at 80-2 at tea they looked well in control of the game. After tea Jaffer Chaudhry bowled a very good tight spell of bowling to restrict the runs at one end, while Richard O'Toole dismissed the danger man in his first over after tea. Back in the hunt St Albans kept the pressure on Langleybury who let themselves get behind the run rate. After tea St Albans put in a great fielding performance and Jaffer Chaudhry and jamie Shaw both bowled well to ensure a Saints win, and keep us right up with league leaders Hemel who are now only 13 points clear. Mondays game against West Herts is a 'must win' game if St Albans are to continue their assault on the top.
