St Albans Cricket Club Sunday 2nd XI v Milton Memorial vs Andrew Cox XI on Sun 04 Jul 2021 at 14:00
St Albans Cricket Club Won by 2 wkts (*DLS-Lowe method)

Match report Overnight and early morning rain didn't dampen the optimism of the Sunday Collective who assembled in good time to prepare the ground and anticipate when would be the best time to take the covers off. After a couple of false starts the scene was set for what was a
poignant occasion remembering both Phil Milton and a St John Fisher's member, Andrew Cox, whose family was present at the toss.
St Albans were offered the opportunity to bowl first and got off to a solid start with Tom Bentley and Finley Killner bowling tight lines and swinging the ball to good effect to restrict the openers to limited scoring opportunities. A change of bowling led to a change of fortune with both Altaf Hussain and Sam Davey picking up wickets before Sunday stalwart Ciaran Walsh chipped in with the opposition starting to accelerate the run rate. A few lusty blows and numerous passing grey clouds later, the score was in excess of 150 and, with Bentley returning to pick up two deserved wickets, a chase of 180-190 looked on the cards. With the score on 164 in the 34th over, the heavens opened and the covers were rapidly wheeled on. An extended rain break and a gentleman's agreement led to a revised target of 175 off 35 overs.
With the conditions now a little more testing for the batting team, the St Albans openers got off to a steady start but the home team were soon in trouble as wickets feel with alarming regularity. Poor fortune, questionable decision making and our ability to pick out fielders who could catch added up to 93-8 with only Ed Lowe (36) and Sam Davey (13) reaching double figures in the top 8. Unbeknownst to the majority of the onlookers this was the perfect platform for Killner and Bentley to finish off what they had started some 5 hours earlier. Sunday cricket is all about allowing the youth of the club to flourish and that is exactly what unfolded with the number 9 and 10 batters faultlessly putting on 82 for the 9th wicket to win with 3 overs to spare.
An enjoyable game played in the right spirit to honour those that have contributed to both clubs. Whilst arguably not the intention of the more experienced members of the Sunday 2XI, it was pleasing see the youth of team bring the victory home.
