St Albans Cricket Club Lost by 2 wickets

Match report On the first day of the season for the 1XI ball dominated bat and St Albans lost a low scoring game by 2 wickets.

The toss was won and St Albans won the toss and chose to bat. However, there were not many positives with only three players getting into double figures. Holtwhites bowled well and managed to get a little bit of movement out of the pitch which was enough for the top order. St Albans were indebted to the innings of Hounslow who anchored the innings scoring 41 before he was well caught.

Some lower order hitting from Mulveney saw St Albans get to a well under par 107 being bowled out in 29 overs.

St Albans new that they were going to have to bowl well to have any chance to win the game. The new ball pair of debutant Billy May and Adshead beat the bat regularly with the batsmen struggling. In their tight opening spells both were rewarded by a wicket each.

After the opening spell spin was introduced and Seagrave and Kumar kept it tight and saw wickets fall at regular intervals. Seagrave picked up 3 wickets bowling a tight line and Kumar with all of his variations picked up two wickets.

When Mulveney was introduced and got the Hotlwhites Captain out 12 were still needed with two wickets remaining. However, a couple of dropped catches meant that Holtwhites were able to sneak over the line and St Albans were not able to pull off an unlikely win.
