Youthful opening batsmen Ollie Brown and Lucas Berry started their innings slowly and built a decent partnership before Lucas, on 29, miscued a shot with the score on 46. Several batsmen scored quickly and made double figure scores supporting Ollie who rotated the strike well and the Saints innings eventually ended on a competitive total of 172.

Hitchin’s chase started slowly, with Finlay Killner and and Vikas Narula keeping them under the required rate with good line and length. The St Albans bowlers were disciplined throughout and performed really well in the middle overs particularly Umar Muhktar with 2 wickets for just 4 runs , never letting the opposition get into the game.

As well as restricting runs crucial wickets were taken at regular intervals and St Albans were always on top throughout the game eventually restricting the opposition to 125 in their 40 overs, 47 short of the target.
