St Albans Cricket Club Won by 3 runs

Match report A sun drenched Wednesday evening saw members of the U15 squad challenge their parents to a 20 over game at Clarence Park. The toss was lost by the boys and they were put into bat with the task to post a challenging total for the parents. The rules were simple every boy/parent must bowl 2 overs preferably against their elder or offspring if the situation allowed, no LBW's to prevent any unnecessary flare ups and 2 runs for a wide and no extra ball.

Barham and Brown walked to the crease with an air of confidence and a swagger built up by recent decent performances. Bowling for the parents was the multi tasking Pete Barham and the ever reliable Matt Brown. The game commenced at a sedate pace with Barham grabbing a few 1's and 2's. Nick Berry behind the stumps, deputising for Barham in the first couple of overs, looking every bit the middle aged keeper. The game came alive in the second over with Oliver Brown chipping the ball back to his father for a caught and bowled. Speller joined Barham at the crease and the pair were busy until Speller sliced the ball to cover point and a decent catch was safely taken by Uncle Roop Roy. Speller's demise saw Lucas Berry arrive and Barham ignite the square with some lovely shots before Barham fell to a beautiful ball from Uncle Roop Roy. This led to a clatter of quick wickets led by Uncle Roop Roy but ably supported by Simon Amess. Simon rolled back the years to generate some decent pace and bounce that unsettled the boys middle order.

Meanwhile Lucas was going about his business as per normal. Accumulating and holding down an end whilst others came and went. A decent knock from William Powell bolstered the boys score and Rohit Menta arrived late on to add a few more. The final flourish was added by Jacob Davis giving some long handle and accelerating the score to 132. The boys had recovered from 39/5 to post a decent score and something for them to defend. Considering the lack of match practice the parents bowled well with Menta, Davis and Dave all deserving greater fortune.

The change of innings saw the two U15 coaches open the batting for the parents against their eager and energetic offspring. Speller and Ives bowled with a pace and menace not seen yet this season to pin the parents back at the outset. Speller was being watchful whilst Ives fell to a ripper of a delivery from Speller younger. Barham arrived and together with Speller they went about building a decent partnership before both retired early to allow some other parents to take to the field.

Brown fell to an excellent piece of fielding and a direct run out leaving Roy and Berry to move steadily towards the target. Once Roy fell his replacement Dave followed without troubling the scorers. Menta joined Berry at the crease and with the total seeming further and further away Berry began to play with abandonment. Eventually Berry fell to a hay maker of a shot and the parents were left with 4 runs from 2 balls.

Amess joined Menta at the crease. Unfortunately, Amess had selected a blade that was more akin to a floor board than a cut of willow and despite valiantly trying to get the ball away they could only muster a single. The parents fell agonisingly close to the finish line and with a more ruthless streak the result could have been different.
