Match report A mix up over pitches meant that the U11s were able to play their first ever match at Clarence Park. A glorious evening meant we were set fair for an exciting cricket match. The toss (which hand is the grass in) was won by OAs and they chose to field. Jay and Sam strode to the crease, and navigated a tight opening spell well…a few suicidal runs cost wickets, but Jay in particular found his feet well, striking two excellent fours. Miles and James followed, and found the going a little tough - James also managed to hit a couple of fours. At the ten over mark it looked like St Albans might struggle to post a serious score, but Harry and William batted superbly to accelerate - Harry in particular impressed with his clean straight hitting - he ended on 15 from 10 balls, including a six! Josh and Alex batted well to round the innings off, St Albans posting 259 and setting OAs to 260 to win. The mid-innings break involved a team talk with great advice such as ‘bowl straight and you’ll get wickets’, and ‘if we get 8, 9 maybe 10 wickets we can win this)…St Albans bowled and fielded well, but the runs kept coming, and despite taking 7 wickets OAs snuck home, finishing on 272. Miles bowled a superb spell, ending with 3 wickets, and the three Js - Josh, James and Jay - all bowled tightly and picked up wickets too. A heartbreakingly narrow defeat - the win will hopefully come soon!
