Match report The Women’s 1XI made it two wins from two on Sunday, producing a composed and confident performance to defeat Bedford CC by 40 runs in their first away outing of the season. It was also a notable day for Amy Price, who captained the side for the first time this year.

With potential rain lurking on the forecast, Price won the toss and made the decisive call to bat first - it proved an excellent decision, despite an unfortunate golden duck for opening batter Annie O’Gorman. Price opened with purpose and fluency, striking 36 from 35 balls, including seven boundaries that carved early momentum into the innings. Her partnership with India Newman, who matched her stroke for stroke with a stylish 37 from 37 (including her first six for SACC) gave the Saints exactly the start they needed on a ground where early runs are gold dust.

With the platform set, contributions from Anum Ahmad (18), Molly Green (10) and a composed 15 from Caitlin Monteith* kept the scoreboard moving. A lively late burst from Lucy Davis (11 off 8)* pushed the total to 184 8, a score that always felt competitive.

Defending 184, St Albans delivered a disciplined bowling display that made it hard for Bedford to settle. Liv O’Neill was superb with the new ball, returning 7 1 19 3 and pinning three batters lbw with trademark accuracy. Newcomer Jules Over backed her up brilliantly, taking 2 13 from 7 overs, including the crucial wicket of Bedford’s standout performer, Avaani Katechia, whose excellent 52 had kept the hosts in the contest. Molly Green added 2 31, while Evie Davis and Anum Ahmad chipped in with a wicket apiece as the pressure mounted and the required rate drifted out of reach. Bedford closed on 144 9, well short of the target but full of fight — a testament to the quality of St Albans’ bowling and fielding throughout the innings.

Two games into the season, the Women’s 1XI look organised, confident, and quietly ambitious. Price’s first outing as captain this year brought clarity, composure, and a performance that suggests this group is ready to build on last season’s progress.

Noteworthy moment: Safi being called up as a new player to the Softball team, and having to make her debut for the Women's 1XI after playing no hardball or matches! Thank you Safi!
