Match report St Albans 5XI travelled to face Bengeo 2XI with three debutants — Ungy Jones, Adam Khel and Vishwa Sirwar. Skipper Immy won the toss and elected to bat first, and Saints posted 183 with valuable contributions throughout the innings. James Grant got us off to a flying start with 37 from 33 balls, Matt Shadwick played an excellent knock of 45, and Praveen Kumar added a solid 35. Contributions down the order helped us reach a competitive total on a tricky surface, although we were still a little disappointed not to bat the full 40 overs.

With the ball, the boys showed great fight and character to defend the score. Nadeem Arif led the attack brilliantly with 3 wickets, while James Witty picked up 2 crucial early wickets. Adam Khel also chipped in with 2 wickets, and every bowler played their part in keeping the pressure on throughout the innings.

The game went right down to the final moments and ended tied on 183, showing how evenly contested and competitive the match was. A few missed chances in the field proved costly, but the effort, energy and teamwork from everyone was outstanding and something to be proud of.

Special mention to the support on and off the field — it really means a lot and keeps the team spirit strong. Plenty of positives to take forward into next week’s home game at Sandpit Lane against Ware.
