St Albans Cricket Club U17 T20 v Verulam Dads CC XI on Thu 24 Jul 2014 at 6pm
St Albans Cricket Club Lost
Match report
Another bucolic evening at Clarence Park saw the grizzled veterans of Verulam Dads CC take on a St Albans X1 of mixed age and experience in a T20 format.
St Albans batted first and got an early shock when the in-form Amit Rajani was caught behind for a golden duck. His opening partner Mark Telkman kept the scoreboard ticking over and enjoyed a decent partnership with Peter Melling . Telkman was eventually clean bowled just short of his 25 trying a reverse sweep and Melling was run out on 13 . Wickets then fell steadily as the wily oldies showed their experience with the injured Ben Hicks coming in too late in the innings to make a difference. His sore hamstring wasn't helped by Andy Saunders making him run two off the last ball of the innings.
A final total of 103 was never going to be enough on a flat track and so it proved as an opposition team heavy on batting picked off the St Albans bowling with relative ease. Tom Pate (2-0-2-1) and Amit Rajani (3.1-0-6-2) were the pick of the St Albans bowlers and a special shout should go to colt Shan Mukhtar for getting his PE teacher out but in reality there were never enough runs on the board to seriously threaten a win.
Well done to those Colts who took part, this is all good experience.......
