St Albans Cricket Club Won by 10 runs

Match report An internal game of mixed Sunday 2X1 adults and Colts saw a competitive game played in good spirit at Clarence Park with teams skippered by St Albans CC veterans Neil Telkman and Andy Saunders.

Andy Saunders won the toss and elected to bat first - decent knocks from Robert Still (48) , Tim Winfield (28) and Saunders himself (who had to retire hurt with a bad back on 19) provided a decent start to the innings . However, too many wickets fell too quickly and even though some batsmen ended up getting another chance to bat in order ensure the 40 overs were batted out in full, the final total was a very chaseable 155 on a good pitch .

This was down to Neil Telkman's bowlers putting in some very decent figures, the most noteworthy being Charlie Parkinson (5-35) , Tian Figg (3-35) and Jacob Winfield (3-28) .

When it was the Telkman's X1 turn to bat wickets fell steadily to the Saunders X1 bowlers who looked in control of the game before a late stand between Charlie Parkinson (31) and Jacob Winfield (42) threatened an unlikely victory.

However, some outstanding bowling by Orangzeb Shaikh aka 'Zaiby' (3-16), and Tim Winfield (4-7) , particularly late in the game, was enough to snaffle the final wickets and see the Saunders X1 home with 10 runs to spare .

Credit must go to the colts who played and who coped exceptionally well with the demands of an 80 over game .There is some real talent at this level of the club and we look forward to seeing these players participating more in the longer forms of the game and developing their skills in the adult teams moving forward .
