St Albans Cricket Club Sunday 2nd XI v Southlands on Sun 04 Sep 2016 at 12:30
St Albans Cricket Club Won by 8 wickets

Match report One last hurrah for the season at Clarence Park saw the Sunday 2s run out convincing winners against Southlands CC in this annual end of season fixture. A strong Saints side agreed to field first on drying wicket to help the opposition who were short on numbers and Harvey Scott and Jamie Telkman opened the bowling in humid conditions. Harvey’s hostile chin music went unrewarded with wickets despite miserly figures of 0-14. Jamie took a couple of overs to get his rhythm after competing in The Beer Olympics the previous evwning but was quickly into his stride and bowled a tight 6 over spell. A bowling change saw off simmers Abul Haseeb and another Olympian Mark Telkman into the attack and it was Abdul who made the first breakthrough with a caught and bowled from his first delivery. Mark’s 5 overs saw only 11 runs conceded and a wicket. Southlands run rate was slow and got even slower with the introduction of Andy Saunders and Jack Ypey who becalmed the batsmen for the duration of their combined 10 overs, Saunders conceding 6 runs and Ypey 15 , snagging 3 good wickets in the process. Ciaran Walsh and Ed lowe were next to bowl , Ciaran rewarded with 2 wickets from his 3 overs and Ed cleaning up the tail with 3 wickets for only 9 runs. A strong performance in the field then, with credit due as well to some superlative wicket keeping from the ever excellent Syed Kibria behind the stumps, with the opposition posting 131 at tea. Steve Ferguson and Naveed Ahmed opened the batting, Steve’s patient innings-building contrasting with Naveeds’s aggressive approach to some generous bowling. A partnership of 69 was built before Steve was well caught on 22 bringing Harvey Scott to the middle. Shortly afterwards Naveed reached his 50, one of many in an impressive season with the bat for him, and graciously retired bringing in Jamie Telkman. Harvey took a typically carefree approach to proceedings and scored a breezy 13 before departing while Jamie Telkman (15*) played a sensible innings with Syed Kibria (17*) and the two of them chased the total down with ease with 19 overs to spare. A good performance played in good spirit- a nice way to sign off the season.
