Match report Two stand out performances took St Albans first XI to an eighth win of the season at Clarence Park on Saturday. A low scoring match featured one outstanding innings and a five-wicket hall from a 14-year old debutante.

Neither side had much to play for bar pride and some local bragging rights. Saints will stay in Division 2A in 2018 whilst Radlett 2's were relegated some weeks ago. The hosts chose to bat and the scorecard had a familiar feel with wickets falling regularly. White started well, his 17 including a 6 over long on, before Lee dismissed the top 3 with 44 on the board. Beks Mabuza, playing his last first team match at Clarence Park, batted aggressively. His first two scoring shots disappeared to the short boundary for sixes and with Matt Howeson put on 37 in 8 overs. The spin bowling of Gallagher & Thapar slowed the scoring and began to bear fruit with Howeson bowled by the former for 14. Thapar picked up the next three for ducks with Mabuza dominating the scoring; his fifty arrived from 52 balls. Parkinson kept him brief company but one attacking shot too many brought his innings of 76 at an end. The score ticked on to 148 which seemed well short of a good target.

Radlett began well with Tej Malde & Lipschitz batting well against the experience of Mabuza & White. Beks made the breakthrough which was quickly backed up by White & Dan Foster, playing against his old club, as 34-0 became 41-3. The absence of several players saw a call-up for Joe Button with immediate affect. His spell of 5 for 30, with Foster taking 3 for 9, meant a memorable debut for the 15-year old. Keeper Sandipan Chanda picked up 5 dismissals as Radlett folded to 85 all out. Button left the ground with the match ball stashed away in his bag.

The 30 points guarantee a top 5 finish, the best finish since 2012, with a fixture at Knebworth Park next who can win the Division to complete the 2017 season.
