St Albans Cricket Club Sunday 2nd XI v N2 CC on Sun 18 Jun 2017 at 1.30pm
St Albans Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets

Match report Another blazing hot day, another match on a weekend that saw a few SACC members wilt under the beating sun , particularly those who had partaken in the Games Night Social at the pavilion a few hours previously .

A friendly match against friendly opposition from North London saw Saints loan N2 CC three players – Ben Mcinnes, Peter Melling and Christian ‘Haydog’ Hay – to make up the numbers.

Skipper Andy Saunders lost the toss and Saints were first to field with Altaf Hussain and Hassan Salahin opening the bowling . Salahin continues to impress with his hostile pace and Hussain with his medium pace variations. It wasn’t long before the opposition openers were back in the hutch bringing the first of the Saints ringers to the crease. Pete Melling batted solidly and built a 50 partnership before eventually being bowled on 22 by Mark Telkman who followed his fine performance in the 3XI yesterday with impressive figures of 3-6. The others Saints - Mcinnes and Hay - scored 15 runs between them, Mcinnes well held on the boundary by Kevin Milton and Hay bowled by Telkman. Saunders, Dave Ashton and Stuart Murray all picked up wickets as the visitors came off the pitch with 116 runs after their 40 overs at tea. A special mention to wicketkeeper Andy Knill-Jones who took two excellent catches and notched a sharp stumping.

The in-form Moksudul Islam opened the batting with his fellow Bangledeshi Tiger Hassan Salahin. Islam teed off from the start and quickly notched 41 bludgeoned runs (including 13 off Haydog’s one and only over) before being caught off the bowling of Mcinnes. In their partnership of 40 Salahin scored none before falling to the bowling of the opposition skipper. Abdul Haseeb was the victim of a decent catch on just 2 and Andy Saunders around for his 13 before being brilliantly caught one-handed by Peter Melling. Andy Knill Jones played sensibly for his 28 and it was left to Kevin Milton and Mark Telkman to see Saints home, the latter hitting the winnings 4 with, as Sunday cricket rules dictate, a somewhat cocky reverse sweep.

Big thanks to Paul and Heather for organizing tea at short notice – much appreciated guys!
