Berkhamsted 5XI v St Albans Cricket Club 5XI on Sat 04 Sep 2021 at 12:00pm
St Albans Cricket Club Lost by 138 runs

Match report A mix of youth and experience saw the Club XI take on Berkhamsted. Berkhamsted won the toss and confidently opted to bat, an ominous sign of what was to come.
Opening spells from Revill and Sri found some swing and movement off the surface. Both found the edge on a number of occasions only for the ball to fall short or wide of the slips. Sir found a well-deserved breakthrough finding some extra bounce off the surface to complete a caught and bowled.
Good batting from Berkhamsted saw their score tick over despite good spells from Jonathan Harris and Jamie Speller. Harry Skeat found the next breakthrough trapping the Berkhamsted number 3 LBW for a well-deserved wicket. Another followed shortly after a sharp delivery from Lucas Berry broke through the defences on the Berkhamsted batsman.
However, a strong Berkhamsted batting line up was able to find gaps in the field to bring the total past 200. Some expert death bowling from Shafrik on debut was able to restrict Berkhamsted to 230 picking up 2 well deserved wickets for his efforts.
St Albans opted for experience to open their innings with Webber and Ashton looking to make inroads into a good total. Webber fell at the end of the opening over to a ball that stuck in the pitch for a caught and bowled. Lucas Berry came to the wicket an began to tick the St Albans total over.
The departure of Ashton brought an ‘under the weather’ George Pelham to the wicket. After a positive start Pelham made good use of his helmet which many hoped may do him some good. The departure of Pelham sparked a flurry of wickets with Harris and Speller departing shortly after to good bowling.
That brough skipper Andy Melling to the crease. With St Albans 45 for 5 he looked to go on the offensive, getting off the mark with an exquisite drive over the bowler’s head. A few further aerial blows saw St Albans past the 50 mark with Berry working away at the other end keeping the total ticking over. One aerial blow to many saw Melling depart for a brisk 16 thanks to a good catch at cover.
Melling’s departure brough Revill to the wicket for his long-awaited batting debut for St Albans. Revill found the boundary twice before finding a fielder with on a long hop.
Some ‘youthful’ let running saw the departure of Berry for a brilliant 32 with Skeat following soon after in the same fashion. Another sharp caught and bowled saw the end of the St Albans innings for 92.
Despite the result some very promising performances with both bat and ball against a strong Berkhamsted side.
