Match report The quality of this week’s 5XI is testament to the strength in depth at our club.

First time skipper Matt Shadwick opted to take to the field on an overcast yet humid afternoon - with a whole battery of bowlers at his disposal.

Tom Bentley and Charlie Bavister kept things tight in an opening spell, keeping Abbots Langley to 1-23 off the first 10 overs. Plenty of contributions from 9 who had a bowl, with special mention to Jithin who picked up 2 wickets, and 1 wicket each for Josh and Nathan Kleiner-Mann.

Their rather cocksure opening batsman carried his bat reaching a ton (albeit with a few lives), but with a total of 179-6, the Saints always felt confident this was in reach.

Saints started well above the run rate, with Shadwick pulling several short -pitched deliveries to the boundary but pulling one too many as he top edged to the keeper. After the demise of Sud, PD and Alexis, this brought the Kleiner-Mann twins to the crease, putting on a 57 partnership to keep Saints well in the game.

A flurry of wickets made things a little tricky, but a cameo of 25 from Button, and an anchor innings from Josh (39*) kept us above the run rate. This whilst showing cool heads with some rather questionable chirping from the opposition.

Eventually young Bavister took on the finisher role, hitting a 6 off a no ball to finish things off in style (18*), Saints winning with 2 wickets in hand and 3 overs to spare.
