Match report A gloomy Sandpit lane met the 5th team on Saturday lunchtime, meaning perfect bowling conditions for third or fourth choice captain Matt Shadwick. Anyway, he opted to have a bat to the surprise of the Harpenden skipper.

It was Shadwick (42) and Maroof (22) to open, and a good start was vital to justify the coin toss. Luckily, the pair put on 42 inside 11 overs, setting a good base for the middle order to build. The runs were shared out with Ahmed (28), Berry (19), Webber (18) all contributing. Tom Coulling finished off with a quick fire 11 to bring Saints to a total of 190 all out.

The bowling performance backed up the batting, with Shadwick using a total of 9 bowlers and everyone doing a job. Frank opened heroically, with the odd “effort” ball the only a tarnish on an otherwise consistently nagging length.

The most pleasing aspect was the youngsters performing admirably, Coffer, Berry and Chakma-Smith all impressing. Of course, Ahmed claimed 3 important wickets to really put the game beyond doubt, and Frank came back on to finish things, bowling Harpenden out for 133. A very successful day where everyone played their part.
