Match report A break from chess valley action meant the Sunday 1’s were tasked with a t20 doubleheader at CP, both against 1st XI’s so a tough challenge was expected considering our mixture of 2/3’s and vast gap in playing division.

The first was against Watford Town 1’s. The day started positively. Toss was won, Lawrence deciding to bat first, confident in setting a large total.

However, a combination of poor batting, the straight ball proving to be very difficult for many of the Saints batsmen, and a pitch which very much offered something for the bowlers meant the Saints were only able to set 81. Largely thanks to cameos from Perrin and West.

The Saints went out to the field knowing a perfect bowling and fielding performance was necessary in order to bowl watford town out.

A master plan to start with spin didn’t quite go to plan, however, very tidy spells from winners (4-0-12-2), JC (4-0-11-1) and Berry (4-0-13-1) meant after 10 Watford were 41-4. Unfortunately, a few drops and missed opportunities meant Watford’s overseas knocked off the winning runs in the 17th over. However, it must be said very respectable bowling effort, defending a small total and making it a very competitive game.
