St Albans Cricket Club Boys U9A v Redbourn CC - U9 Juniors on Mon 10 Jul 2023 at 18:00
St Albans Cricket Club Lost by 37 runs

Match report Redbourn won the toss and elected to bat. That's about as good as it got for St Albans under 9s on a rain-speckled evening at Sandpit lane, as we hosted our previously postponed (for lightning) final fixture of the league season. A low flying red kite was a highlight, as were the appearance of a couple of parakeets overhead during the second innings. A few early missed chances in the field allowed Redbourn to accelerate quickly, and they punished any loose St Albans bowling, the runs piling up. Redbourn had a particularly strong second pairing of Roe and Bunyan, with Roe destructive on the leg side, finishing with 42 from 16 deliveries. St Albans stuck to their task well in the field though, and did not let their heads drop. The last ten overs of Redbourn's innings saw significantly fewer runs than the first ten. Catches for Raylan, Evan (on debut) and Noah meant wickets fell at regular intervals...Evan and the two Harrys taking the bowling plaudits, with spells of 3-0-10-1, 3-1-7-1 (Newman) and 2-0-19-2 (Wallace) respectively. A couple of run-outs helped to keep the runs down, but with six wickets taken, a score of 311 looked a tall order at the mid-point. With Harry and Harry opening the batting, it was Newman who took the attack to Redbourn, ending with 24 runs to his name. A particularly strong flick off his legs showing superb hand eye coordination. Our second pairing of Joshua and Evan kept the runs ticking along nicely, and after 10 overs the score was 251. The incoming pair of Alex and Raylan knew they'd need to put their foot on the gas in order to accelerate to keep up with the required rate. Unfortunately the pursuit of those quick runs lead to a slew of wickets, and both Raylan and Alex each perished twice. Our final pair of Noah and Atticus showed some nice touches, with Atticus in particular playing with excellent control. Over 18 by Bugryniec brought about another two wickets, and with those St Albans' hopes were finally extinguished. We ended on 264. A great effort from the St Albans under 9s, but in the end Redbourn proved a little too strong for us. Revenge will be had next year!
