Match report The 5s went into this one again without usual skipper Melling, and this is one he would have bitterly disappointed by (if he still remembers us).

This was a missed opportunity to say the least, with the difference primarily the 6 dropped catches for the 5s while the opposition took all of theirs.

Potters Bar got off to a quick start, helped by the aforementioned questionable fielding - however Hadden and Vijender brought back an element of control - backed up by the Wittys, ending the innings 181-5.

The 5s would have been confident in the chase, despite a good total being set. Shadwick and Kumar initially looked good, but Shadwick’s early wicket failed to set the platform required, and St Albans continued to lose regular wickets, despite keeping up with run rate required. A few good starts (Kumar - 20, Benjamin - 15, E.Witty - 16, Kilner - 23, Hadden - 14) really emphasises the “missed opportunity” theme of the day, as it’s fair to say most were gutted in the way they got themselves out.

However, there was one man. One man who bravely fought like no other. That man, was Utti Vijender. Compared to Nathan Lyon limping out to the crease on one leg, Utti could barely walk after a strong spell of bowling earlier in the day on 129-9 with Jithin. It was clear to see the anguish of every run that got the 5s ever closer to the target of 182. Sadly, it wasn’t to be. Just as the crowd were daring to dream, a mix up between Jithin and Utti gave Potters Bar a run out and the win.

Some positives to take, but this was a disappointing day for the 5s - albeit a good close game of cricket.
