Match report St Albans 5XI travelled to Northwood Town on a sunny but windy afternoon in Middlesex. 5XI had 4 debutants and 5 u16 players and one of them was 13 years old Daniel Leal who made his first appearance for 5XI and men’s cricket , Club cap was presented to Daniel by club Legend Praveen Kumar and it was truly a memorable, fantastic and pride moment for Daniel Leal.
On a very dry but very tricky batting pitch, St Albans won the toss and skipper Imran elected to bat. Fin McNab and Suli Nissar opened the batting, Suli was runout for 0 in 2nd over and Praveen and Fin were bowled for 5 and 6 in quick succession, not the start St Albans wanted. It brought debutant Monis Haris to the crease joined by skipper Immy. Monis was told not to lose wicket and stay in the crease as long as possible and other side Immy tried to be positive and scored run whenever had chance, pairs added 40 runs on the board before Monis bowled out on 14 after drinks break tried to escalate the scoring.it was a difficult pitch and didn’t help when you had your first game for the club but it was hard fought 14 and Haris played some lovely shot before got out. That made club legend John Webber to the crease and he was unlucky got out c&b by Northwood skipper Kishan and soon after Jacob St Albans u15 player got unfortunate run out for 1 who just had his debut last week. The debutant u13 Daniel Leal came to the crease and straightway looked very positive, coming down the wicket to their skipper and played some really good short before stumped for 6 which made number 10 James Witty and another debutant Joe Bishops at number 11 to the crease. James played some nice shorts before Joe Bishops got out and St Albans all out for 90 which skipper Imran thought St Albans were 30-50 runs short, but never less Young Saints 5XI were not ready to give it away without any flight.
James Witty and Debutant Joe Bishops opened the bowling for 5XI and bowled pretty well without any luck and didn’t get the same help from the pitch what Northwood got in first innings so change was needed and Jacob Bromme came at first change and didn’t disappoint , bowled really well, line and length was good but first break though came from skipper Imran bowled one of the Northwood opener who tried to be aggressive and quickly got another one LBW for 0 and Jacob also claimed well deserved his first wicket in the innings.
Defeat was inevitable though, skipper Imran decided to come off and gave others a chance and Suli Nisar took the opportunity and Bowled a magic ball to the well-settled opener but it was undoubtedly Saint’s batting innings that lost the match, Despite spiriting bowling and fielding response by the Saints. Northwood intimately applied themselves much better with the bat and were deserved victors.it was a bad day at the office but Saint 5XI proud to represent the youth and new comers to 5XI and skipper Imran promised to back his players regardless the result and give everyone a chance to play league games but we can’t afford to lose too many games as we need to stay in the league and may be still push for another promotion who knows.

A Moment to remember: Saints 5XI welcomed 4 debutants again and had 5 u16 kids. Club cap was presented to Daniel Leal by Praveen Kumar.
